There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to p2p video distribution. Network speed, file availability, codecs, browser versions, etc etc. One of the most important pieces are the trackers which are used to coordinate file availability and connect peers to one another. Today we're announcing the launch of our own public tracker.

Why a tracker is needed

Until recently, Madlad.tv was at the mercy of other public trackers, when they were down all of Madlad.tv would be down. To further complicate this issue, very few public trackers actually support websockets which is needed stream without downloading and installing the Madlad.tv Media Server.

To help combat this, we've launched our own public webtorrent tracker. This should help with site reliability, and speed up client side video streaming.

The tracker is available here:

For now this tracker is available for use to all webtorrent clients. This may change in the future as we adjust to increased usage.
